Martin Nguyen to Face Koyomi Matsushima at One: Dawn of Heroes

By Tudor Leonte Jul 3, 2019

Martin Nguyen will make a third defense of his One Championship featherweight title at Mall Of Asia Arena, where One: Dawn of Heroes will go down on Aug. 2. The first-ever two-division titleholder in One Championship history will lock horns with Japan’s Koyomi Matsushima.

Nguyen (12-2) is coming off a highlight reel finish in his latest bout against Narantungalag Jadambaa. “The Situ-Asian” secured his victory thanks to a flying knee which sent his Mongolian opponent to the canvas. Nguyen has gone 3-2 in his last five bouts, with notable victories over Christian Lee and Eduard Folayang.

Pancrase and Shooto veteran Koyomi Matsushima (11-3) has become a top featherweight contender in One since stopping former divisional champion Marat Gafurov. After smashing Gafurov in the first stanza of their encounter, Matsushima defeated Kwon Won Il via unanimous decision at One: Legendary Quest.

One: Dawn of Heroes will see also both One flyweight grand prix semifinal bouts as Demetrious Johnson squares off with Tatsumitsu Wada, and Danny Kingad meets Kairat Akhmetov.
