Matt Brown went all in against Robbie Lawler at UFC on Fox 12 on Saturday, so much so that he wound up being transported to the hospital following the main event.
During the post-fight press conference in San Jose, Calif., UFC President Dana White announced that Brown had left directly from the arena to receive medical attention. “The Immortal” appeared to have suffered an injury to his right hand during his five-round battle with Lawler.
Both Brown and Lawler absorbed their fair share of damage over the course of 25 minutes, but even with his obvious hand injury, Brown went for the finish in the fifth round. The Ohio native was aware he was down on the judges’ scorecards, but still nearly came back to steal a win.
Afterward, Brown visibly wore the scars of battle, having sustained multiple cuts to his face. The defeat halted a seven-fight winning streak for the 33-year-old welterweight.
