The first meeting between Mitrione and Kharitonov ended prematurely when “Meathead” landed an accidental kick to the groin that rendered his Russian opponent unable to continue just 15 seconds after their Bellator 215 main event bout began.
A cast member on “The Ultimate Fighter 10,” Mitrione has gone 4-1 with one no contest in Bellator since leaving the UFC. His tenure with the California-based promotion includes notable wins over Roy Nelson and Fedor Emelianenko.
The 38-year-old Kharitonov has lost just once in 13 professional bouts since 2012. In Bellator competition, the Strikeforce and Pride veteran has scored first-round stoppages of Chase Gormley and Nelson while falling to Javy Ayala via KO in the opening stanza.
