Maycee Barber will square off against Roxanne Modafferi in a women’s flyweight bout at UFC 246 on Jan. 18.
Sherdog.com confirmed the booking following an initial report from MMAjunkie.com. Though not officially announced, UFC 246 is expected to take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. A headliner for the card has not been confirmed.
Since signing with the UFC after a win on Dana White’s Contender Series, Barber has emerged as one of the promotion’s most promising prospects. The 21-year-old has earned three straight stoppage wins over Hannah Cifers, J.J. Aldrich and Gillian Roberts to begin her career, and the Roufusport product is 8-0 as a professional overall.
Modafferi, 37, is one of the most respected veterans in women’s MMA. “The Happy Warrior” is 2-4 during two stints with the Las Vegas-based promotion, which includes a loss to Nicco Montano for the inaugural female flyweight belt at “The Ultimate Fighter 26” finale. Modafferi has compiled a 23-16 career mark while competing in organizations such as the UFC, Strikeforce, Invicta and Cage Warriors.
