Michael Chandler - Brent Primus 2 Announced For Dec. 14 in Honolulu

Former Bellator MMA lightweight champion Michael Chandler will finally get a shot at redemption against the man who took his belt after a brutal knee injury ended his fight against Brent Primus back in June 2017.

The two are set to rematch on Dec. 14 in front of an audience of armed forces in Honolulu, the promotion announced on Thursday.

Primus (8-0) won the belt in an obviously controversial fashion and hasn’t defended his title or fought since the Chandler fight. Meanwhile, “Iron” Mike (18-4) has rattled off two wins since then -- a decision victory over Goiti Yamauchi and a submission win over Brandon Girtz.

Chandler held the lightweight strap from 2011 to 2013 and again from 2016 to 2017. A win over Primus would make Chandler the first fighter in promotional history to win a belt three times. The longtime Bellator staple has been calling for a rematch with Primus since losing the title, but injuries prevented the incumbent champion from returning to competition.

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight champion Frank Mir (18-12) will look to rebound from his disastrous Bellator debut against Fedor Emelianenko as he takes on Javy Ayala (10-7) in the main event.
