Mike Tyson, Roy Jones Jr. Return From Retirement for Sept. 12 Exhibition Match
Two legendary boxing champs are going to toe the line in September.
On Thursday, Yahoo Sports reported that Mike Tyson (50-6, 44 KOs) and Roy Jones Jr. (66-9, 47 KOs) are coming out of retirement to face one another on Sept. 12. The two titans in the sport will headline a pay-per-view event held at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California. Their bout will be an exhibition match consisting of eight rounds of boxing.

Tyson, 54, will be stepping foot in the ring again for the first time since 2005. When he faced Kevin McBride in what was believed to be his final bout, “Iron Mike” retired on his stool after the sixth round in a competitive fight, but not before losing two points from an intentional headbutt. Although away from active competition for 15 years, Tyson recently put out a video of him hitting pads with acclaimed coach Rafael Cordeiro. Not just a stunt, on his Instagram, Tyson announced that he will be starting an organization called Legends Only League. In this promotion, Tyson will book aging fighters and athletes to compete against one another.
Jones Jr. the relatively younger fighter at 51 years of age last competed as a pro in 2018. The cruiserweight left the sport on a four-fight win streak, including a knockout of bare knuckle boxing stalwart Bobby Gunn in 2017. His last bout came at 199 pounds against Scott Sigmon, and in their Febraury 2018 contest, Jones Jr. captured a unanimous verdict with three scores of 98-92 in his favor to win the vacant WBU German Cruiserweight title. Jones Jr. has never competed above 204 pounds. Like his opponent, Jones Jr. has his own league called Roy Jones Jr. Boxing Promotions, which airs events on UFC Fight Pass.
Other than the Tyson vs. Jones Jr. bout, Foster stated that YouTube personality Jake Paul will take on former NBA player Nate Robinson at the event. There was rumor of James Toney locking horns with Tito Ortiz, but that pairing has fizzled according to Ortiz.
