New Bellator MMA President Scott Coker Writes Open Letter to Fans

Since signing on with Bellator MMA, Scott Coker has remained relatively quiet.

Thursday, the former Strikeforce CEO released a letter to mixed martial arts fans regarding his immediate plans for Bellator MMA.

“My first order of business is to take a look at the Bellator roster and determine all the exciting possibilities that are in store for the future,” Coker said. “Our goal is to make every Bellator event feel big and special which is a huge win for fighters, advertisers, and of course -- and most importantly -- you, the fans. I’ve been on the phone with dozens of fighters and to hear the excitement in their voices has been incredibly encouraging.”

Coker went on to emphasize his desire to grow Bellator MMA in the industry and become an organization fighters strive to compete for, as opposed to being a last resort. On June 25, Bellator parted ways with 19 fighters who had previously been under contract.

“We want Bellator to be a first-choice destination for the best fighters in the world and we want our events to showcase the fun side of the sport -- the personality and showmanship that makes MMA so entertaining,” Coker added. “This is the best sport in the world and we want our events to demonstrate that for all to see.”

The promotion returns to action July 25 with Bellator 122, which goes down at Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, Calif., and features the promotion’s middleweight tournament final between Brett Cooper and Brandon Halsey.
