ONE Muay Thai Title Bout:
Regian Eersel vs. Dmitry Menshikov

Round 1

The final fight of the night comes at 170 pounds, in a muay thai championship collision between “The Immortal” Eersel (60-4, 27 KOs) and Russian challenger Menshikov (27-2, 19 KOs). While the 25-year-old from Prokopyevsk has strung together 11 straight wins in kickboxing, Eersel has won…many more in a row, with the latter never tasting defeat in the One ring or cage after a number of bouts in KB and muay thai. The main event commences as the fighters intensely tap their gloves together in front of referee Olivier Coste, and it’s on with the show. Menshikov moves to the center of the ring and immediately walks into two low kicks and a double jab. Menshikov fires back with two slapping kicks down low in response, and the two men unload with huge punches that both roll with as the crowd in Lumpinee Stadium gasps. Eersel steps in with a body kick that he pulls back at the last second, drawing Menshikov’s guard down just a small amount. “The Immortal,” sensing an opening up top while his own leg is still in the air, wings a blazing fast left hook that collides square into the temple of the challenger. The perfectly placed blow sends the Russian collapsing to the mat, and he is in a daze when he lands. Coste starts the count, and Menshikov returns to his feet when Coste reaches three. As Menshikov is wobbling around like a defeated fighter from Mortal Kombat about to receive a Fatality move, Coste sees that Menshikov’s eyes are looking in all directions but his. Coste waves off the match, and Menshikov protests but practically topples over, and Coste has to grab hold of him and walk him to his corner to keep him upright. The two-sport champ has done it again, recording a speedy knockout and earning his first Round 1 finish on the One roster. All smiles, Eersel informs commentator Mitch Chilson in his post-fight interview that he plans on defending his kickboxing title next, and plans on defending five times for the glory and 10 times for the legacy. Chilson screams a post-fight bonus into Eersel’s face, and the knockout and $50,000 award put a cap on an exciting event in Thailand. The promotion’s next big event will take place in July back in Singapore, and we will be here for it. We hope you are too.

The Official Result

Regian Eersel def. Dmitry Menshikov R1 0:46 via KO (Punch)
