Olympic Gold Medalist Henry Cejudo Receives New Opponent in LFC 25 Co-Headliner

The Legacy Fighting Championship 25 co-main event has been altered once again, as Legacy Fighting Championship officials announced Wednesday that Olympic gold medalist Henry Cejudo will now meet short-notice replacement Saul Elizondo live on AXS TV.
Cejudo was expected to face former Strikeforce and Bellator talent Humberto DeLeon at the Nov. 15 event, but DeLeon was pulled from the contest after “struggling with negotiations on the weight for the bout,” according to the official LFC release. DeLeon was tapped as a replacement last month after Cejudo’s original opponent, Elias Garcia, withdrew due to injury.

Elizondo, who will be the sixth bantamweight to take a stab at blemishing Cejudo’s untainted record, is a submission specialist, having earned four of his six victories by tap out. The 38-year-old Texas native last competed just two weeks ago, earning a unanimous decision over 13-fight pro David Armas at South Texas Fighting Championships 27.
Cejudo began his MMA campaign this past March following a decorated freestyle wrestling career that saw him win an Olympic gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Games. As a mixed martial artist, Cejudo has earned four of his five wins inside the opening round but was taken the distance in his most recent outing, when he grabbed a unanimous verdict from 24-year-old Texan Ryan Hollis in his LFC debut last month.
