PFL Challenger Series 2 Play-by-Play, Results & Round Scoring

Sherdog's live PFL Challenger Series 2 coverage kicks off Friday at 9 p.m. ET. The action will be broadcast live and free on fuboTV.

Women’s Featherweight Bout:
Michelle Montague (144.8) vs. Shaquita Woods (145.8)

Round 1

Kicking off the card, Michelle Montague (2-0) faces Shaquita Woods, who is making her pro debut. Montague is by far the biggest favorite of the card at a whopping -500, which is a lot of faith for a fighter with only two bouts. Woods starts off with a few kicks, including a sidekick to the head, but Montague avoids them. Motangue scores with a leg kick of her own. They're cautious now, standing at range. Woods overextends on a front kick that Montague easily dodges. Neither fighter has really thrown a punch yet, just kicks. Woods touches Montague's leg with a kick and throws a punch that is about a foot short of the target. Woods misses another front kick to the body. Woods barely taps Montague with another leg kick and misses another punch that isn't remotely close. Montague finally opens up with a flurry of punches out of nowhere and it bothers Woods, though none get through cleanly. Woods misses a number of punches. Finally, Montague goes for a double-leg and easily slams Woods to the canvas. Montague is now in side control. Woods quickly retains half-guard, though. Montague postures up and lands a few punches, as Woods seems lost from the bottom. Montague goes from half-guard straight to mount with a little over a minute left. Woods quickly gives up her back as Montague peppers her with small arm punches. Montague is a little too high to lock in a choke and Woods only has 30 seconds left to survive the round. Woods even tries to stand up with Montague still draped on her back. Montague tries a RNC, but it's loose and time expires.

Sherdog Scores

Lev Pisarsky scores the round: 10-9 Montague
Brian Knapp scores the round: 10-9 Montague
Mike Fridley scores the round: 10-9 Montague

Round 2

Montague throws a wild punch to begin the round, but it doesn't land. Woods again throws punches from almost a foot away. They throw more punches that all miss. Montague misses a front kick to the body of her own. Montague decides to grapple, but it's a poor attempt, with her bent over 90 degrees at the waist, and Woods flips her over, trying to lock in an Anaconda choke. It's not very tight though, and Montague is trying to stall it out. She does so, but Woods is on top now, in side control. Woods doesn't entirely give up the choke and continues squeezing, which will likely gas out her arms. Montague uses the opportunity to get to her knees and gets back up, pushing Woods into the cage with half a round remaining. Montague gets Woods to her own knees, who is on her butt against the cage defending against the takedown. Montague is trying to suck her hips out, but Woods stays tought for a while. Finally, with about 80 seconds left, Montague gets Woods' back firmly on the canvas. She almost immediately gets into the mount, just as she did in round 1, and then Woods gives up the back. This time Montague has her hooks in and goes for a rear-naked choke. Woods is trying to hand-fight, though. Finally, with 15 seconds left, Montague flattens her out and pulls with all her might. Woods has no choice but to tap. Montague celebrates with her teammate Kayla Harrison in her corner.

The Official Result

Michelle Montague def. Shaquita Woods via Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) at 4:45 of Round 2

Women’s Featherweight Bout:
Jackie Cataline (145.6) vs. Senna van de Veerdonk (145.2)

Round 1

Next up, Jackie Cataline (2-1) squares off against Seena van der Veerdonk (3-1). The oddsmakers have this as a pick'em, despite Cataline being 34 and Veerdonk 22. Cataline immediately clinches to begin the bout and picks up Veerdonk from the side, slamming her to the canvas. Veerdonk spins for an armbar and Cataline decides to stand back up. Veerdonk then lands several straight rights that Cataline makes no attempt to dodge or defend. Cataline then inexplicably clinches and despite landing a nice knee to the body, Cataline soon turns her into the cage and begins working for a takedown. The pace stalls now, as Veerdonk lands the occasional knee to the midsection. Cataline then returns fire with one of her own. Veerdonk goes down to her back and tries an armbar and again Cataline demurs, returning to range. After Veerdonk throws a few strikes that barely miss, Cataline clinches yet again. Cataline then lands a nice knee to the body before they disengage yet again. Veerdonk partially lands a right hook and then inexplicably goes to the ground when they clinch. Cataline lands several nice punches to the downed Veerdonk but then lets her up again. Now they strike and Veerdonk is covering up now as Cataline lands whatever punches she wants to. Veerdonk goes to the side of the cage and is in a type of standing fetal position as Cataline hits her with punch after punch. They're not hard, but Veerdonk is not intelligently defending herself in any manner. After Cataline lands a few big knees to Veerdonk's side and continues punching as Veerdonk slides to the canvas along the cage, the referee finally stops it.

The Official Result

Jackie Cataline def. Senna van de Veerdonk via TKO (Punches and Knees) at 4:09 of Round 1

Women’s Catchweight Bout:
Jeslen Mishelle (145.8) vs. Evelyn Martins (146.8)

Round 1

Moving along, Jeslen Mishelle (2-0) meets Evelyn Martins (2-0), who missed weight. This hasn't stopped Martins from being a healthy favorite at over -200, likely aided by her being only 20 years old. Mishelle comes forward with punches, but she misses and Martins tags her. However, a second such attempt is more successful, with Mishelle getting a 1-2 through. They then clinch against the cage. Both try to land knees to the body, but neither land. They seperate and go right back to throwing punches with reckless abandon, though nothing hard lands. They then add some body kicks into the mix, but again, nothing is solid. Martins lands a left hook perfectly to Mishelle's chin, but it's a weak shot, with Mishelle barely noticing it. Again Mishelle comes forward and eats a left hook right behind the ear, but again, there isn't any power to it. Mishelle comes forward with a head kick that is blocked. Martins lands a few more punches, but yet again, there is no discernable damage from them. Mishelle throws a series of straight punches and the left one gets through. Martins lands a leg kick, which initiates both throwing a bunch of punches, but they practically all hit nothing but air. Mishelle struggles to get her kicks high and in the process, Martins lands some punches, but again, none are hard. Martins lands a slow leg kick and Mishelle is unable to land any counters. Both fighters now miss a long series of punches and kicks. Mishelle touches Martins with a leg kick but there is nothing on it. Martins lands a right cross straight to the face, but again, there is little on it. Mishelle misses a series of kicks and Martins a series of jabs. A very energetic round, if nothing else.

Sherdog Scores

Lev Pisarsky scores the round: 10-9 Martins
Brian Knapp scores the round: 10-9 Martins
Mike Fridley scores the round: 10-9 Martins

Round 2

Mishelle misses a few punches and Martins misses a leg kick to begin the second stanza. Mishelle keeps kicking but they're very slow and they miss. She barrels forward, being tagged by a few Martins punches, but again with little effect. Both women land some leg kicks now, but nothing to bother either one. Mishelle goes for a slow leg kick, being hit with a Martins right cross. Mishelle falls from being off-balance more than any damage and Martins is on top. Martins is immediately energetic from the top. She takes the back and appears to be way too high and loose. However, she persists in going for the choke and Mishelle isn't moving herself at all. Eventually, Martins gets the rear-naked choke and tap despite being out of position. Our third finish in three fights.

The Official Result

Evelyn Martins def. Jeslen Mishelle via Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) at 1:38 of Round 2

Women’s Featherweight Bout:
Amanda Leve (144.8) vs. Naranjargal Tsendayush (146.0)

Round 1

In the main event, Amanda Leve (1-0) battles Mongolian Naranjargal Tsendayush (2-0). Both fighters immediately come out and trade punches which land, but don't cause much damage. Leve then pushes Tsendayush into the cage and they start grappling furiously. Tsendayush goes for a hip-toss, natural given her judo background, but Leve stays tough. Tsendayush is successful, however, on a head-and-arm throw, slamming Leve to the canvas with the scarfhold still locked on. She continues squeezing it too, though she is at risk of Leve getting out and taking her back. Leve is struggling with Tsendayush's size and strength, though she actually takes the back with a very loose body triangle, as Tsendayush continues holding onto the head. Suddenly, Leve is out and she has the body triangle on much tighter, as well as clearly taking Tsendayush's back, working for a RNC. Leve peppers her with short punches and works to get her arms in for the choke. Leve can't quite get the choke in, but continues landing short little punches to the head that bother Tsendayush. Tsendayush is in pure defensive mode, simply trying to protect her neck with both hands around there, but eating as many punches as Leve wishes to throw. Leve obliges and keeps landing one small punch after another. Leve ends the round continuing to land punches.

Sherdog Scores

Lev Pisarsky scores the round: 10-9 Leve
Brian Knapp scores the round: 10-9 Leve
Mike Fridley scores the round: 10-9 Leve

Round 2

Leve is much more energetic to begin the second round, and immediately lands a punch and even throws a head kick that is off-balance but connects. Tsendayush tries to fire back but she is a lot more tired and slower than her opponent now. Tsendayush does, however, land a left hook as Leve leaves herself wide open. Leve retaliates with a straight punch that snaps Tsendayush's head up and backwards. Leve comes forward and Tsendayush throws a series of hooks, but they all hit nothing but air. Leve lands a leg kick and dodges an attempted receipt from a Tsendayush punch. Tsendayush misses an overhand right. Tsendayush misses a few punches and then Leve comes forward, but leaves her hands out-stretched, being touched by Tsendayush in return. This is a very close round halfway through round 2, despite Tsendayush's fatigue. Leve, the shorter fighter, keeps coming forward, though Tsendayush mostly misses attempts to punish her. Finally, Leve comes forward and has her chin high, with Tsendayush landing several nice hooks. Tsendayush then lands a right hook that causes Leve to fall, though it appears to be her mostly being off-balance, as she gets up quickly. Leve then lands her best punch of the round, a right cross that again snaps Tsendayush's head back badly. Tsendayush then scores on some more big hooks that bother Leve, forcing her to temporarily clinch. They immediately break and resume boxing. Leve lands a straight left that gets Tsendayush's attention. They both try to land big punches as the stanza winds down, but nothing big lands. A surprising comeback round for Tsendayush.

Sherdog Scores

Lev Pisarsky scores the round: 10-9 Tsendayush
Brian Knapp scores the round: 10-9 Leve
Mike Fridley scores the round: 10-9 Leve

Round 3

Leve misses a 1-2 to begin the round. Tsendayush partially connects with her own right cross, though it's rather awkward and does little damage. Leve lands some punches inside but then tentatively pulls back, being hit with a few hooks by the Mongolian. Now Leve makes a more serious committment to the inside, landing a series of flush straight punches that appear to hurt Tsendayush. She finally gets out, but Level just had her best striking sequence of the fight. Leve touches Tsendayush at range with a few jabs to the body. Leve crashes the distance but Tsendayush's hooks barely miss. Leve is a little too obvious walking forward and Tsendayush lands a right hand. Leve lands another jab to the body, a tactic which is working well for her. Halfway through the round, the pace slows. Leve lands a leg kick and avoids Tsendayush's punches. Tsendayush now clinches against the cage, but they break it up soon after. Leve then lands a right cross but Tsendayush returns fire with a hook that stuns Leve. Tsendayush then lands a big right hook, her best punch of the round, that causes Leve to stumble back. A very close round! Both women land right hands simultaneously, with each moving back from the impact. With a minute left, it's either woman's fight. Leve lands a nice straight left that again snaps Tsendayush's head back. She then lands another left jab. Wanting to get it back, Tsendayush comes forward and one of her hooks connects well. Leve then throws a head kick and it lands flush, though not hard enough to hurt Tsendayush. Tsendayush charges forward with reckless abandon and lands several big hooks that hurt Leve. Very, very close round.

Sherdog Scores

Lev Pisarsky scores the round: 10-9 Leve (29-28 Leve)
Brian Knapp scores the round: 10-9 Leve (30-27 Leve)
Mike Fridley scores the round: 10-9 Leve (30-27 Leve)

The Official Result
