PFL Partners With New York City Food Bank to Provide Meals for Those in Need

The Professional Fighters League is doing its part to help during the coronavirus pandemic.

In a press release on Thursday, the promotion announced that it will be teaming up with Food Bank For New York City to provide meals for New Yorkers affected during the pandemic. The PFL will be providing 25,000 meals for those in need, as well as raising awareness and bringing additional donations with its social media presence. The PFL will also produce a public service announcement for Food Bank.

“Demand for food has never been higher and the challenges associated with meeting the needs of our community never greater,” discussed Janis Robinson, Vice President of Institutions & Partnerships, Food Bank For New York City. “The number of people turning to our emergency food network has grown 50% during the COVID-19 pandemic. It takes a team effort to tackle a crisis, and we are so grateful for organizations like the Professional Fighters League and countless generous individuals for their support and contributions during this pandemic.”

The Food Bank For New York City organization has been working to fight against hunger for over 35 years, and is considered the largest organization that provides hunger relief. Donating $1 to Food Bank will provide five meals to those in need during this trying time.

PFL CEO Peter Murray further explained, “Our thoughts are with all those impacted by COVID-19, and the heroes out in the front lines attacking this pandemic. We want to do our part to show that the PFL family is in their corner and they aren’t alone in this fight. I am a lifelong New Yorker, our PFL headquarters are in Manhattan and we’ve received tremendous support at our championship events hosted at Madison Square Garden. This is our home, and together, we can make a difference, provide some comfort, and make sure New Yorkers don’t go hungry.”

The PFL has suspended its 2020 season in light of the pandemic. It will schedule the season for the following year, and it is unclear if it will end non-tournament events later this year. To help provide some aid to the fighters, those that remained on the roster -- many fighters were cut -- will be issued a monthly cash stipend. According to sources, the payments will be issued from July to December, and will amount to $1,000 per month.
