Bail was set at $18,000, and Diaz was released from custody by Saturday. The Stockton, Calif., native is due back in court on June 26.
Shortly after Diaz’s arrest, the UFC released the following statement:
“UFC is aware of the recent arrest of middleweight athlete, Nick Diaz,” the statement read. “The organization does not tolerate domestic violence and requires all athletes to adhere to the UFC Fighter Conduct Policy. Every athlete is deserving of due process and this situation, as with any official allegations, will be duly reviewed and thoroughly investigated by an independent party.”
Diaz has not competed in the Las Vegas-based promotion since Jan. 31, 2015, when he lost a five-round verdict to Anderson Silva in the UFC 183 headliner. The bout was later overturned to a no contest after Silva tested positive for performance enhancing drugs and Diaz tested positive for marijuana. Diaz was recently cleared to compete by USADA after accepting a one-year sanction for three missed drug test attempts from 2016 to 2017.
