RFA 20 Weigh-In Results: Jarred Mercado Misses Weight, Ineligible to Win Bantamweight Title

By C.J. Tuttle Nov 7, 2014
The vacant Resurrection Fighting Alliance bantamweight title will be contested at RFA 20 on Friday, when Jarred Mercado and Luke Sanders meet in the card’s main event, but only Sanders is eligible to win the belt.

Mercado tipped the scale at 139.8 pounds on Thursday, thus making him ineligible to win the title with a win. As a result, he also forfeited 20 percent of his fight purse to Sanders. The eight-bout card will emanate from the 1stBank Center in Broomfield, Colo., and air live on AXS TV.

Mercado made his promotional debut at RFA 16, grabbing a unanimous decision from Daniel Swain. Sanders has fought twice under the RFA banner, winning both bouts. The former Strikeforce and Xtreme Fighting Championships competitor remains perfect to open his career, with six stoppages in eight career wins.
