According to Ultimate Fighting Championship President , Dana White, former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans has been scratched from this weekend’s monumental UFC 205 card (current odds) in New York City. ESPN.com first reported the news.
An Oct. 19 MRI conducted on Evans, who was set to make his middleweight debut, reportedly revealed “irregular findings,” though Evans wouldn’t disclose the medical issue that came up.
Evans was in desperate need of a win as the former 205-pound king is stuck in a two-fight losing streak. After losing a decision to Ryan Bader at UFC 192, Evans was knocked cold in the first courtesy of a Glover Teixeira punches at UFC on Fox 19. He had gone 2-2 in his previous outings.
Kennedy, meanwhile, didn’t know about anything until after he landed in New York. Once he discovered that his opponent had been lifted, he took to Twitter to address the situation: “Just landed in New York. It sounds like my fight with @SugaRashadEvans is off. I do not official word. #ufc205”
Kennedy is coming off a third-round TKO loss to Yoel Romero at UFC 178 in what was an exciting, albeit controversial fight more than two years ago. The former Army Ranger had been filming Season 2 of “Hunting Hitler,” a reality show in which a team investigates the death of Nazi leader Adolph Hitler.
