Reinier de Ridder Beats Leandro Ataides for No. 1 Contender‘s Spot at One: Warrior’s Code

One Championship returned to Indonesia this week as Warrior’s Code went down at the Istora Senayan arena in Jakarta, Indonesia. The main event saw Petchmorakot Petchyindee Academy winning the inaugural One featherweight muay Thai world title at the expense of Pongsiri PK Saenchaimuaythaigym.

The main attraction on the mixed martial arts bill featured Leandro Ataides and Reinier de Ridder battling for the No. 1 contender spot to Aung La N Sang’s middleweight strap. The two Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belts put on a hard fight that lasted all three rounds. They exchanged heavy shots while trying to impose their grappling skills over each other. As time went by, though, it was de Ridder who took the lead of the action thanks to his suffocating striking skills. Eventually, all three judged awarded de Ridder (12-0) a unanimous decision victory. Ataides (11-4) will have to wait for his moment of glory.

In the biggest upset of the event, Iuri Lapicus scored the best win in his career until now after he submitted Marat Gafurov in just 67 seconds. Lapicus pushed on the accelerator as soon as the bout started, and hit his opponent with a series of vicious low kicks. When the former lightweight champion tried to rely on his renowned grappling skills, the Team Petrosyan representative brought him to the ground thanks to a marvelous judo throw. Once on the mat, Lapicus secured a slick rear-naked choke that forced Gafurov to tap.

In front of a partisan crowd, Eko Roni Saputra (2-1) got rid of Khon Sichan (3-6) after submitting his opponent thanks to a slick rear-naked choke at 3:45 mark of Round 1.

In the first bout of the main card, Koyomi Matsushima (12-4) crushed former Top FC featherweight champion Jae Woong Kim (10-5) thanks to a series of heavy shots in ground and pound which forced the referee to call the stop of the action after 24 seconds of the third stanza.

Elsewhere, Itsuki Hirata (6-0) managed to keep her record clean after trashing Nyrene Crowley (3-3) via TKO at 3:27 mark of Round 3; Sunoto Peringkat (12-7) edged Nurul Fikri (3-4) thanks to a unanimous decision; Abrou Fernandes (9-2) spoiled Achmad Eko Priandono’s One debut and defeated the One Pride MMA veteran via unanimous decision; Fajar Fajar (4-1) detonated Eka Aprilianto (2-5) via TKO in less than 3 minutes in the opening stanza.

The scheduled bout between Demi Yulianto and Antonis Muyak was canceled a few hours prior to the event due to Muyak failing both weight and hydration tests.
