According to a report from MyMMANews last week and additional confirmation from MMAFighting on Thursday, Modafferi (22-15) will be facing Shevchenko (7-0) at UFC Fight Night 149 at to-be-determined venue in St. Petersburg, Russia this April.

Modafferi competed in the inaugural UFC flyweight title bout against Nicco Montano in 2017, coming away unsuccessful but rebounding with a knockout victory over Barb Honchak several months later. Modafferi last competed at UFC 230 in November, losing a decision to Sijara Eubanks, with the latter missing weight before their contest. Between her first and second stint in the Octagon, Modafferi registered seven appearances in the Invicta Fighting Championshipspromotion, and became one of only eight fighters to ever win at least five bouts in Invicta.

Shevchenko made her successful UFC debut in November when she defeated Ji Yeon Kim by decision. Undefeated as a professional, Shevchenko made her MMA debut in 2002 but took over 12 years off from 2005-2017 before returning. She earned a spot on Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series against Jamielene Nievara, finishing Nievara in the second round to earn a UFC contract.

UFC Fight Night 149, also known as UFC on ESPN+ 7, will take place at a currently unannounced venue in St. Petersburg, Russia on April 20, 2019. No bouts have been announced as the headliner, although a rumored heavyweight matchup between Alistair Overeem and Alexander Volkov has been discussed.
