It’s all systems go for the Rizin Fighting Championships 15 main event, as both Muhammed Lawal and Jiri Prochazka made weight for their light heavyweight title tilt.
“King Mo” tipped the scales at 203 pounds, while Prochazka checked in at 205 pounds for a rematch of a December 2015 Rizin contest that Lawal won via first-round knockout in the finalos of the Japanese promotion’s heavyweight grand prix. Rizin 15 takes place at Yokohama Arena in Yokohama, Japan, on Sunday and will also see Kyoji Horiguchi (132) face Ben Nguyen (131) in a matchup of former UFC talents.
Lawal has gone just 2-4 since winning Rizin’s heavyweight grand prix, a slump that includes TKO losses at the hands of Liam McGeary, Ryan Bader and Mirko Filipovic. The most recent of those was a first-round stoppage against McGeary at Bellator 213 this past December. Lawal also owns wins over Quinton Jackson and Satoshi Ishii during that time.
Prochazka, meanwhile, has compiled a seven-fight winning streak since his loss to Lawal. Most recently, the 26-year-old Czech Republic native earned a TKO win over former Bellator champ Brandon Halsey at Rizin 14.
