Rizin to Hold Additional Dec. 31 Event Featuring Tatsuya Kawajiri vs. Satoru Kitaoka

One New Year’s Eve event apparently isn’t enough for Rizin Fighting Federation.

The Japanese promotion announced Monday that it will hold a smaller fight card on the morning of Dec. 31 headlined by a clash between Tatsuya Kawajiri and Satoru Kitaoka. The event will be called “Cygames presents Heisei’s last YARENNNOKA!” and will precede Rizin 14 that night.

Three additional fights were also announced for the card: Kai Asakura vs. Jae Hoon Moon; Kana Watanabe vs. Shizuka Sugiyama and a kickboxing match between Yuta Uchida and Takuma Konishi. The event will feature a total of six to seven fights overall, according to a release.

The 40-year-old Kawajiri has lost four of his last five fights. Most recently, “Crusher” suffered a second-round KO loss against Gabriel Leite de Oliveira in October 2017. Kawajiri owns a 36-12-2 career record.

Kitaoka, 38, has also lost four of his last five bouts, including a trio of defeats under the Rizin banner. In his most recent outing, the Nara, Japan, native was outpointed by Koji Takeda at Deep “86 Impact” on Oct. 27.
