Two bantamweight fighters who picked up $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonuses in their UFC debuts will square off on Sept. 5, as Rob Font and Chris Beal take to the cage.
UFC officials announced the bout on Thursday.
The tilt will be part of the UFC Fight Night at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Ledyard, Conn. The event will also house a middleweight duel featuring Gegard Mousasi and Ronaldo Souza, as well as the freshly announced Alistair Overeem-Ben Rothwell heavyweight bout.
Font is coming off a knockout victory of George Roop at UFC 175 in Las Vegas. The 27-year-old Boston native will enter the Octagon with a professional record of 11-1, with seven of his wins coming by way of the finish.
Following a stint on “The Ultimate Fighter 18,” Beal returned to the independent circuit and continued racking up wins. In all, “The Real Deal” maintains an undefeated record of 9-0. In his first true Octagon experience, the Knuckleheadz Boxing product knocked out Patrick Williams with a gorgeous flying knee at UFC 172 in April.
