Sage Northcutt will attempt to end a mini-slump when he returns to the Octagon at UFC 214.

The promotion announced on Wednesday evening that Northcutt will square off against Claudio Puelles in a lightweight bout at the July 29 event. UFC 214 takes place at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., and is headlined by a light heavyweight championship rematch between Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones.

After winning his first eight pro MMA bouts — including two in the UFC — Northcutt has dropped two of his last three Octagon appearances. Most recently, the Katy, Texas, native suffered a second-round submission defeat against Mickey Gall at UFC on Fox 22.

Puelles made his promotional debut at UFC Fight Night 98 on Nov. 5, when he fell to Martin Bravo via second-round technical knockout. The 21-year-old Peru native owns a 7-2 career mark, with six of those victories coming inside the distance.
