Mauricio
Rua recently underwent knee surgery to repair the injury that
knocked him out of a rematch with Ovince St.
Preux at UFC Fight Night 117, and the procedure apparently was
a success.

“Guys, last night I had surgery on my left knee, and thank God
everything worked out well. I already started my physical therapy
today, so I can get healthy soon to comeback stronger!” Rua wrote
on Instagram. “It was very hard for me to have to step out of a
fight due to injury, and I want to thank my doctors, my physical
therapist and his team for all the help, and to you all for all the
messages of support! Thank you!”
“Shogun” withdrew from the Sept. 22 bout after admitting that he
attempted to train with “medication, protection in my knee, ice and
physical therapy.” Rua last appeared at UFC Fight Night 106 on
March 11, when he earned a third-round TKO victory against Gian
Villante.
After St. Preux dispatched short-notice foe Yushin Okami
in the UFC Fight Night 117 headliner, he expressed a desire to
pursue the rematch with Rua at a later date. However, it is
unclear when the 35-year-old Rua will return to the Octagon.
