Light heavyweight prospect Ovince St. Preux took home the largest purse from Saturday’s Strikeforce Challengers 17 event at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.

According to figures disclosed to Monday by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, the former University of Tennessee linebacker pocketed $12,000 for his 72-second finishing of the previously unbeaten Joe Cason ($3,000).

Former Strikeforce women’s 135-pound champion Sarah Kaufman earned $10,000 with her unanimous decision victory over Liz Carmouche ($2,500), but could have made more had the bout not gone the distance.

“Sarah Kaufman had a clause in her contract that stated she would only receive the [$5,000] win bonus if she won by KO, TKO or submission. No win bonus for a decision victory,” an NSAC representative stated in an email to

Main event winner Bobby Voelker netted a total of $11,000 for his second-round technical knockout of welterweight rival Roger Bowling ($4,500), while heavyweight co-headliner Devin Cole grabbed $10,000 by outpointing Shawn Jordan ($4,000), who fought on only three days’ notice.

These numbers do not include taxes, licenses or other deductions which may be taken from a fighter’s purse, nor do they reflect any discretionary bonuses which may be issued by the promoter.
