Steel City Lands Mitrione-Morecraft Matchup

“The Ultimate Fighter” Season 10 alum Matt Mitrione will meet Christian Morecraft in a heavyweight duel at UFC Live 4 on June 26 at the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh. The promotion on Monday announced the matchup.

Anchored at the Roufusport gym in Milwaukee, Mitrione (Pictured) trains under former world kickboxing champion Duke Roufus. The 32-year-old Springfield, Ill., native last appeared at UFC “Fight for the Troops 2” in January, when he stopped Tim Hague on first-round punches at Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas. Unbeaten as a professional, Mitrione has finished three of his first four foes, including Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson. He played defensive tackle at Purdue University before moving on to brief stints in the NFL with the Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants.

Morecraft has not competed since UFC Fight Night 24 in March, when he choked Sean McCorkle unconscious with a second-round guillotine at KeyArena in Seattle. The 6-foot-6 265-pound Team Bombsquad representative made his promotional debut in August, losing to Stefan Struve by second-round knockout in a memorable encounter. In eight professional outings, Morecraft has never gone the distance. He sports 40-, 41-, 56- and 70-second finishes on his resume.

Other matches ticketed for UFC Live 4 include a heavyweight tilt pitting Patrick Barry against Cheick Kongo, a featherweight battle pairing Tyson Griffin with former WEC title contender Manny Gamburyan and a lightweight tussle between “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 5 semifinalist Joe Lauzon and Curt Warburton.
