Steven Peterson Believes He Needs to Finish Martin Bravo at UFC Mexico City

Steven Peterson is on a two-fight losing streak after suffering a controversial loss to Alex Caceres at UFC on ESPN 4 in July.

Immediately after that fight, “Ocho’”requested a quick turnaround, and his wish was granted. Peterson will square off against Martin Bravo at UFC Fight Night 159 in Mexico City on Saturday night in a featured featherweight scrap. Peterson vs. Bravo, along with the rest of the card, will air on ESPN+.

“I don’t want to sit on a loss, especially a loss I felt so strongly I won,” Peterson said to Sherdog.com. “I wanted to get in there as soon as possible and get a win.”

With both combatants entering the matchup on a two-fight losing streak, the loser could very well be cut. Since Peterson is fighting in Bravo’s home country, he suspects he will need to finish the Mexican fighter, as he isn’t sure he would win a decision in hostile territory.

“It could be. With the two losses it is that much more important to go out there and fight to the best of my abilities and get a finish. I’m fighting a Mexican fighter in Mexico; I need to get a finish,” he explained. “I can’t expect the judges to sway my way if it is a close one — just take the judges out of the equation.”

Regardless, Peterson is confident in his abilities that he will finish Bravo and leave Mexico City on a winning note.

“I don’t see it going the distance. I know I need a finish here and I see one of us getting a finish and it won’t be me going down,” he concluded.
