Strikeforce announced on Friday that it will hold an event on June 16 at the 8,000-seat Nokia Theatre in the L.A. Live complex, next to the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The event will air live on Showtime, said Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker.
The event will be held in coordination with EA Sports as part of the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), an annual video game conference for the industry’s leading trade professionals held at the L.A. Convention Center. EA Sports will release its “EA Sports MMA” video game, featuring the Strikeforce promotion and many of its fighters, in the fall.
“The June 16 card will include some top-heavy main-event fighters, as well as some standout ‘Challenger’ prospects,” Coker told Sherdog.com on Friday.
Coker said that the promotion aims to match former EliteXC middleweight champion Robbie Lawler against Jason “Mayhem” Miller, who competes this Saturday against Tim Stout at Strikeforce “Nashville” inside the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn. Strikeforce “Nashville” air live on CBS beginning at 9:00 p.m. EST.
