Cathal Pendred came up short in his bid to win “The Ultimate Fighter 19,” but his loss on the reality show resulted in what could likely be viewed as a win for the UFC.
Instead of competing at the “TUF 19” finale on July 6, Pendred will fight on his home soil when he faces fellow cast member Mike King at UFC Fight Night Dublin on July 19. The promotion announced the pairing shortly after the most recent episode of “TUF,” where Pendred dropped a split decision to Eddie Gordon in the middleweight semifinals.
UFC Fight Night “McGregor vs. Brandao” takes place at the O2 in Dublin and is headlined by a featherweight bout between Conor McGregor and Diego Brandao. The evening’s entire card will stream live on UFC Fight Pass.
A former Cage Warriors Fighting Championship welterweight titlist, Pendred is unbeaten in his last eight fights. Most recently, the SBG Ireland product earned a third-round TKO victory over former UFC talent Che Mills at CWFC 55.
King, meanwhile, also saw his reality show run end at the hands of Gordon. A former All-American football player at Otterbein University, the 30-year-old is 5-0 as a professional, earning an opening-round stoppage of Billy Garris at CFA 9 in his most recent outing.
