A rib injury has forced Brazilian welterweight Marcio Alexandre Jr. to withdraw from his bout with George Sullivan at Sunday’s “The Ultimate Fighter 12” Finale.
Ultimate Fighting Championship officials Monday announced that Sullivan will instead face Octagon newcomer Dominic Waters at the event, which takes place July 12 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Topped by a welterweight tilt between Jake Ellenberger and Stephen Thompson, the event will air live on Fox Sports 1.
Sullivan will look to rebound from an April submission loss to Tim Means at UFC on Fox 15. The former Cage Fury Fighting Championships titlist began his UFC stint with back-to-back victories over Igor Araujo and Mike Rhodes.
A competitor on the 16th season of “TUF,” Waters was the top pick of coach Roy Nelson but was eliminated by Mike Ricci in the opening round. Since then, the Californian has gone 3-1, picking up wins in organizations such as World Series of Fighting and Resurrection Fighting Alliance.
