Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Claudia Gadelha made selecting a “Fight of the Night” winner at "The Ultimate Fighter 23” finale finale an easy decision.
The reality show coaching rivals pocketed $50,000 apiece for their back-and-forth strawweight clash in the evening’s headliner at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Friday night. Gadelha dropped Jedrzejczyk with a jab early and made her Polish foe work in the first two stanzas with wrestling and clinch work. However, Jedrzejczyk found her rhythm in the third frame and gradually took her adversary apart with precision striking over the second half of the bout to earn a unanimous decision triumph.
Elsewhere, not only did Tatiana Suarez win the strawweight portion of “TUF 23,” she also received a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus for her submission of Amanda Bobby Cooper. Suarez escaped an early armbar attempt from Cooper before executing a takedown, landing ground-and-pound and securing a fight-ending brabo choke 3:43 into round one.
Finally, Doo Ho Choi received the evening’s other $50,000 “Performance of the Night” award for his first-round knockout of Brazilian veteran Thiago Tavares in a featured featherweight tilt. The South Korean prospect dropped his opponent with a straight right hand near the cage and needed just one follow-up blow on the ground before the contest was halted at the 2:42 mark.
