The news was also posted on Escudero’s Twitter account on Monday.

“Hello true fan I was released by the Ufc today speaking to strikeforce and bellator. Taking a week off and make my way back!” it read.

Escudero had amassed a 2-2 record following his unanimous decision victory over Phillipe Nover at “The Ultimate Fighter 8” Finale in December 2008, with victories against recent Fight Night 22 winner Cole Miller and Dan Lauzon. The 24-year-old Mexican-born lightweight had been recruited onto the series as an undefeated 10-0 fighter.

Besides season four victor Travis Lutter, who had previously fought for the promotion before the series, Escudero is the only other ‘TUF’ winner to get cut from the promotion to date.
