Talita Nogueira Misses Weight Badly; Bellator 163 Bout vs. Marloes Coenen Canceled

Talita Nogueira missed weight by more than five pounds on Thursday morning ahead of her Bellator 163 showdown with Marloes Coenen, resulting in the cancellation of the featherweight bout.

Sherdog.com confirmed the cancellation with a promotion official on Thursday. Nogueira checked in approximately 5.6 pounds heavy at Thursday morning’s official weigh-ins and was unable to cut any more weight. Coenen, meanwhile, successfully hit her mark and will be paid her show money.

Nogueira vs. Coenen was scheduled to be part of Friday’s five-bout TV card on Spike TV, which airs beginning at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT. As of this writing it is unclear which preliminary bout would be elevated to the main card broadcast.

Coenen last appeared at Bellator 155, where she was submitted by Alexis Dufresne with a triangle armbar 4:33 into the opening stanza. Coincidentally, Dufresne missed weight by more than four pounds, but the bout went forward as planned.

Nogueira will have to wait to make her Bellator MMA debut. The 31-year-old Brazilian is 6-0 as a professional but hasn’t competed since December 2013. All of her victories have come inside the distance.

Bellator 163 takes place at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., and is headlined by a light heavyweight championship clash between Liam McGeary and Phil Davis.
