Thiago Alves will square off with Jordan Mein in a welterweight clash when the UFC travels to Oklahoma on Aug. 23.
Promotion officials announced the pairing on Monday, as well as a featherweight matchup pitting Tom Niinimaki against Chas Skelly. The UFC Fight Night event takes place at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla.
Alves returned to the Octagon for the first time in more than two years on April 19, as he captured a unanimous decision triumph over Seth Baczynski at UFC on Fox 11. The American Top Team product is a former 170-pound title challenger who owns notable triumphs over Chris Lytle, Karo Parisyan, Matt Hughes and Josh Koscheck, among others.
A three-time Strikeforce veteran, the 24-year-old Mein already has 37 professional fights. “Young Gun” debuted in the Las Vegas-based promotion with a first-round technical knockout win over Dan Miller last year. The Canadian would fall to Matt Brown in his next outing at UFC on Fox 7 before rebounding to earn a split verdict against Hernani Perpetuo this past April.
