Titan FC 40 Weigh-in Results: ‘JZ,’ Assuncao On Point

By Mike Sloan Aug 5, 2016
Florida-based MMA promotion Titan Fighting Championships will head down to Coral Gables on Friday for its next event, which will take place inside the Bank United Center. Headlining Titan FC 40 will be newly-crowned lightweight champion Gesias Cavalcante defending his belt against Freddy Assuncao.

Cavalcante captured the promotion’s vacant title in somewhat shocking fashion when he knocked out longtime veteran and former Titan FC lightweight champ Pat Healy in the first. Assuncao, also from Brazil, has been red hot since suffering the first loss of his pro career. He’s coming off a second-round submission of former Bellator MMA and World Series of Fighting veteran Cody Bollinger, though that conquest was a full year ago at Titan FC 34.

At Thursday’s weigh-ins, both lightweights were equally on point and looked nearly flawless on the scale. Assuncao and Cavalcante each weighed exactly 155 pounds, clearing the final hurdle for their championship main event.

The co-feature will see Shorty Torres taking on Abdiel Velazquez for the interim flyweight title. Torres came in at 124.2 pounds while Velasquez was a bit lighter he clocked in at 123.8.

Titan FC 40 will be streamed live on UFC Fight Pass beginning at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT.
