Promotion CEO Campbell McLaren revealed that Ortiz will face Alberto Rodriguez — better known as Alberto Del Rio — in an interview with Generacion MMA. A date and a venue for the bout were not confirmed.

Ortiz signed with Combate Americas in April. The UFC Hall of Famer last appeared at Golden Boy MMA’s lone event, where he scored a first-round knockout of Chuck Liddell on Nov. 24. Prior to that, the 44-year-old went 3-1 during a four-bout stint with Bellator MMA that included wins over Alexander Shlemenko, Stephan Bonnar and Chael Sonnen.

While he was more widely recognized for his exploits in World Wrestling Entertainment, Del Rio compiled a 9-5 record over the course of an MMA career that began in 2001. That stint included a pair of losses to Mirko Filipovic and Kazuhiro Nakamura in Pride Fighting Championships. Del Rio was hired as Combate Americas president in 2016.
