Tito Ortiz will square off against former WWE star Alberto Rodriguez — more commonly known as Alberto Del Rio — at a Combate Americas event in Hidalgo, Texas, on Dec. 7.
The contest was announced during Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show on Monday, and the promotion subsequently confirmed the booking shortly thereafter. The event takes place at Payne Arena and will be available via pay-per-view for $39.99. The promotion's first ever women's strawweight title fight is also expected to be on the card.
A UFC Hall of Famer, Ortiz last appeared at Golden Boy MMA’s lone event, where he scored a first-round knockout of Chuck Liddell this past November. Prior to that, the 44-year-old went 3-1 during a four-bout stint with Bellator MMA that included wins over Alexander Shlemenko, Stephan Bonnar and Chael Sonnen.
While he was more widely recognized for his exploits in World Wrestling Entertainment, Del Rio compiled a 9-5 record over the course of an MMA career that began in 2001. That stint included a pair of losses to Mirko Filipovic and Kazuhiro Nakamura in Pride Fighting Championships. Del Rio was hired as Combate Americas president in 2016. Del Rio now goes by the moniker Alberto El Patron.
