Triller Fight Club to Postpone Triad Combat 2 on Feb. 26 in Houston

The second Triad Combat show from Triller Fight Club will no longer be taking place at the end of February.

Ariel Helwani broke the news on Friday that Triad Combat 2 had been scratched. The event was slated to take place at the Toyota Center in Houston on Feb. 26, and the Toyota Center confirmed the fight card is canceled. Per the organization, the reason for its cancelation came from rising COVID-19 cases in the Houston area. There is no current date on the calendar for it to return.

The Triller team released a short statement regarding the postponement of the fight card on Thursday, writing, “Triller Fight Club has decided to reschedule the upcoming Triad Combat 2 event slated for February 26th at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. We made this hard decision out of an abundance of caution for the Fight Club athletes and fans of Triad and Jason Aldean; we determined that, given the current state of the Omicron virus, it was in our collective interest to postpone this large arena event. All tickets will be refunded and stay tuned for very exciting news for where and who will be fighting and rocking our next event!”

Triad Combat 2 is not the only event at the Toyota Center canceled recently, as concerts for Los Temerarios and The Weeknd will no longer be taking place at that venue this month. Other shows including a concert from the band Tool, multiple Houston Rockets basketball games and UFC 271 are all still on the books in February and on sale at the arena. The sudden nixing of the fight card drew speculation online that other reasons contributed to the event’s postponement, with some fans inquiring whether low ticket sales played a factor.

The modified rules showcase with MMA fighters facing off against boxers was first established in November 2021, when the team representing MMA edged boxers in total head-to-head victories. This second event was to be captained by Quinton Jackson on the MMA side and Shannon Briggs for boxers, and six bouts were booked on its lineup. The headliner was to see highly touted heavyweight boxer Kubrat Pulev take on ex-UFC champ Junior dos Santos. Vitor Belfort vs. Chad Dawson was set as the co-main event, with Joe Schilling, Jimmie Rivera, Sam Sicilia and Claudia Zamora repping MMA on the undercard against Armin Mrkanovic, Samuel Teach, Dakota Linger and Stephanie Han, respectively.
