Former International Fight League standout Ben Rothwell
will meet Gilbert Yvel
in a featured heavyweight matchup at UFC 115 “Liddell vs. Franklin”
on June 12 at General Motors Place in Vancouver, British Columbia,
Canada. The UFC on Friday finalized an 11-bout lineup for the
event.
Rothwell has not competed since his one-sided technical knockout loss to Cain Velasquez at UFC 104 in October. The 28-year-old Kenosha, Wis., native has never lost back-to-back fights. Rothwell, who has trained under both Pat Miletich and former world kickboxing champion Duke Roufus, holds notable victories against one-time UFC heavyweight titleholder Ricco Rodriguez, “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 10 winner Roy Nelson and “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 8 semifinalist Krzysztof Soszynski. He has delivered 28 of his 30 career wins by knockout, TKO or submission.
Spawned by the Vos Gym and now based in Las Vegas, Yvel has lost
two of his last three fights. The 33-year-old Dutchman made his
promotional debut in January, when he succumbed to first-round
punches from fast-rising heavyweight contender Junior dos
Santos at UFC 108. Yvel has finished all 36 of his victories,
31 of them by KO or TKO. The Pride Fighting Championships veteran
has been disqualified three times in his career, once for attacking
a referee.
Meawnhile, “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 6 winner Mac Danzig will lock horns with Matt Wiman in a preliminary lightweight tilt.
Danzig finds himself in desperate need of another victory. The 30-year-old former King of the Cage lightweight champion halted a streak of three consecutive losses with a unanimous decision over Justin Buchholz at UFC 109 in February. Danzig has secured more than half (10) of his 19 wins by submission.
A quarterfinalist on Season 5 of “The Ultimate Fighter,” Wiman last appeared in December, when he outpointed Shane Nelson en route to a unanimous nod at UFC 107. The 26-year-old Denver native owns a victory against world-ranked featherweight Michihiro Omigawa and remains the only man to finish Brazilian lightweight Thiago Tavares.
A light heavyweight bout pairing hall of famer Chuck Liddell with former middleweight champion Rich Franklin will headline UFC 115, along with a heavyweight duel between 2006 Pride open weight grand prix winner Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic and Patrick Barry.
