A four-man submission grappling tournament will be held at the UFC
129 Fan Expo, and welterweight contender Diego
Sanchez (Pictured) will participate in the competition.
Presented by Grappler’s Quest, the tournament will be held April 29-30 at the Direct Energy Centre in Toronto and will serve as a precursor to UFC 129. Headlined by a welterweight title fight between dominant champion Georges St. Pierre and the highly regarded Jake Shields, UFC 129 will emanate from the Rogers Centre on April 30.
Competing against Sanchez in the opening round will be Canadian grappling specialist Andrew McInnes. Meanwhile, jiu-jitsu ace Ryan Hall will lock horns with fellow mat wizard Jorge Britto. The opening round will take place on April 29 at 1:30 p.m. ET, and the winners of the respective semifinals will square off in the final at the same time on April 30.
Additionally, a grappling super fight pitting Fabio Holanda against Nolan Dutch is also scheduled for April 30. Holanda is an instructor at Brazilian Top Team Montreal, while Dutch is a seven-time Grappler’s Quest champion.
“The UFC Fan Expo will feature some great matches between some of the best grapplers in the world,” UFC President Dana White said in a release. “I’m really excited to see Diego Sanchez compete and try to win the tournament. He’s always really tough on the ground, and he has a ton of heart.”
