UFC 148 set a new record for the promotion’s largest live gate among shows held in the United States, attracting 15,104 spectators for a total of $6,901,655.

The figures were released to Sherdog.com on Tuesday by Keith Kizer, executive director of the Nevada Athletic Commission. Of those in attendance, 13,606 paid for their entry, while 1,498 tickets were distributed free of charge, or “comped.” A total of 64 tickets remained unsold.

UFC 148 took place July 7 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and was headlined by a middleweight title rematch between Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen. As he did in their August 2010 encounter, “The Spider” emerged victorious, earning a second-round technical knockout over Sonnen to cap their rivalry.

Prior to UFC 148, the promotion’s largest domestic gate was earned by UFC 66 in 2006. The event, which pulled in nearly $5.4 million, was highlighted by a light heavyweight title rematch between Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz. Though UFC 148 now holds the promotion’s new record in the U.S., last year’s UFC 129 still wears the crown worldwide, as over 55,000 spectators packed the Rogers Centre in Toronto to produce a live gate of more than $12 million.
