UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey not only walked away from UFC 170 with a victory in the main event, but “Rowdy” also pocketed a “Performance of the Night” bonus for her efforts.
UFC 170 took place at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas and saw Rousey successfully defend her crown for the third time, as the judoka stopped fellow Olympian Sara McMann with a knee to the liver just 66 seconds into their championship headliner.
Earlier, Thompson scored a first-round finish of Robert Whittaker to open the show’s pay-per-view broadcast, dropping the Australian with a right straight and then polishing him off with hard shots on the ground.
Though Maia mounted MacDonald in a dominant first round, the Canadian came back strong in the second and third periods, avoiding nearly all of Maia’s takedown attempts while battering the Brazilian standing en route to a unanimous decision win.
