Demetrious Johnson’s tradition of excellence made him $50,000 richer on Saturday night.
Meanwhile, Chad Laprise and Bryan Barberena received $50,000 “Fight of the Night” paychecks for their entertaining lightweight scrap. Laprise set the tone early, rocking his foe with hard shots to the head and body in the opening frame. Barberena offered some quality offense of his own in the second stanza, but Laprise did enough in round three to earn a unanimous nod from the cageside judges.
Finally, unbeaten Brazilian prospect Thomas Almeida demolished Yves Jabouin to capture the evening’s other $50,000 “Performance of the Night” award in a featured bantamweight contest. Almeida rocked his foe with a left hook late in the first round and put Jabouin away with a barrage of hooks, uppercuts and body punches near the fence to earn the finish 4:18 into the period.
