UFC 231 belonged to Max Holloway, and that was evident in the distribution of post-fight bonuses.
The reigning featherweight champion earned an extra $100,000 for his fourth-round TKO of Brian Ortega in the evening’s headliner at Scotiabank Centre in Toronto, Ontario. Holloway landed a UFC record 290 significant strikes over four rounds, taking home “Performance of the Night” honors and sharing “Fight of the Night” honors with Ortega, who received $50,000 in defeat.
Elsewhere, Thiago Santos the card’s other $50,000 “Performance of the Night” check for his wild slugfest with Jimi Manuwa. In his second fight at 205 pounds, “Marreta” dropped Manuwa twice in the bout, punctuating his victory with a wicked left hook-uppercut combo 41 seconds into round two for his 10th career KO/TKO finish in the Octagon dating back to 2014.
