Amanda Nunes gave Holly Holm a taste of her own medicine at UFC 239, and the results were quite lucrative.
The reigning bantamweight queen received a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” award for her head kick knockout of Holm in the opening stanza in Saturday’s co-main event at the T-Mobile Arena on Saturday night. The end came at the 4:10 of the opening frame, giving the two-division champion her ninth consecutive Octagon triumph.
Elsewhere, Jorge Masvidal was an easy selection for a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” check for a lightning quick finish of Ben Askren in a featured welterweight tilt. Masvidal timed an Askren takedown perfectly, knocking his foe out with a flying knee in a UFC-record five seconds.
Meanwhile, Jan Blachowicz captured the card’s third $50,000 “Performance of the Night” for a second-round knockout of Luke Rockhold in a featured light heavyweight scrap. A left hook from the Polish veteran sent Rockhold to the canvas, and Blachowicz ended his opponent’s 205-pound debut with follow-up blows on the ground at the 1:39 mark of Round 2.
Finally, Yadong Song garnered the final $50,000 “Performance of the Night” for a knockout of Alejandro Perez in a preliminary bantamweight clash. Song countered a leg kick with a right cross that dropped Perez in the opening stanza, and a diving right hand sealed the win 2:04 into Round 1.
