Both Weili Zhang and Joanna Jedrzejczyk received two-month medical suspensions following their five-round battle in Saturday’s co-main event at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Zhang retained her strawweight crown with a grueling split-decision triumph over the Polish challenger, who developed a freakish hematoma on her head over the course of the 25-minute affair.
The Nevada State Athletic Commission released a full list of medical suspensions from the event on Monday.
Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya was not as fortunate. The Nigerian-born Kiwi must receive doctor clearance on both feet or he will potentially be sidelined until Sept. 4. Adesanya rode a leg-kick heavy attack to a unanimous verdict over Yoel Romero in the evening’s headliner. Romero did not receive a medical suspension of any kind.
Six other fighters from UFC 248 are also facing potential six-month terms pending doctor clearance: Beneil Dariush (right knee), Max Griffin (left shoulder), Sean O’Malley (left foot), Mark O. Madsen (jaw), Gerald Meerschaert (left ankle and Danaa Batgerel (right foot).
