After nearly two months off due to the coronavirus pandemic, including Disney executives stepping in to stop the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s April 18 card, UFC 249 will finally take place, and only one fighter has missed weight.

Atop the stacked card, Tony Ferguson (25-3) will look to extend his 12-fight win streak and once again win the UFC interim lightweight title against Justin Gaethje. “El Cucuy” previously held the interim belt after submitting Kevin Lee at UFC 216. After being stripped due to injury, Ferguson bounced back with TKO wins over Anthony Pettis and Donald Cerrone. Ever the professional, Ferguson once again made championship weight by coming in at 155 pounds on the dot.

This marks the biggest fight in the career of Gaethje (21-2), a former World Series of Fighting champion. “The Highlight” impressed in his promotional debut as he put away Michael Johnson with punches and knees but dropped back-to-back bouts by knockout to Eddie Alvarez and Dustin Poirier. The Arizona native has bounced back nicely by knocking out James Vick, Edson Barboza, and Donald Cerrone to earn his first title shot. Gaethje looked good on the scales and came in at 155 pounds.

In the co-main event, Henry Cejudo will look to make his first bantamweight title defense against former champion Dominick Cruz. Cejudo (15-2) is coming off an incredible 2019 that saw him knock out both T.J. Dillashaw and Marlon Moraes to become a champion in two divisions. “The Messenger” has since vacated his flyweight belt but will look to cement himself as an all-time great at 135 as he takes on Cruz (22-2), who hasn’t fought since losing the belt to Cody Garbrandt in 2016. The bout is now official as both fighters came in at the bantamweight limit of 135.

UFC 249’s main card will air live on ESPN+ pay-per-view starting at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT. The preliminary portion of the card begins at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT on both ESPN and ESPN+.

One fighter did miss weight: Jeremy Stephens (150.5)*, who came in 4.5 pounds overweight for his featherweight bout against Calvin Kattar. Stephens has been fined a percentage of his purse.
