Vicente Luque was first to solve the Niko Price riddle.

Luque (12-6-1, 5-2 UFC) compromised the American Top Team export’s base with hard kicks to the upper and lower leg. He turned up the heat in the second round, cut Price near the left eye and backed the Floridian to the fence. An overhand right buckled Price and left him vulnerable to a crippling body shot that came next. Luque locked up the brabo choke in the chaos that ensued, closed off avenues of escape and elicited the tapout.

Carlos Jr. Choke Submits Marshman
“The Ultimate Fighter Brazil” Season 3 winner Antonio Carlos Jr. submitted former Cage Warriors Fighting Championship and British Association of Mixed Martial Arts champion Jack Marshman with a rear-naked choke in the first round of their preliminary middleweight contest. Marshman (22-7, 2-2 UFC) conceded defeat 4:30 into Round 1, suffering just his second defeat in 10 outings.
Carlos Jr. (9-2, 6-2 UFC) entertained the Welshman with a few brief standup exchanges before tripping him to the canvas and setting up shop in half guard. He eventually climbed to full mount, advanced to the back and snaked his arms around Marshman’s neck. Once the choke was in place, the tapout became a forgone conclusion.
The 27-year-old Carlos Jr. will carry a four-fight winning streak into his next appearance.
Gordon, 14-1, Overwhelms Dias
Onetime Cage Fury Fighting Championships titleholder Jared Gordon overwhelmed Hacran Dias with pace and persistence, as he took a unanimous verdict from the Nova Uniao standout in a three-round pairing at 155 pounds. Gordon (14-1, 2-0 UFC) swept the scorecards with 29-26, 29-27 and 30-26 marks from the judges.
Dias (23-6-1, 3-5 UFC) enjoyed some early success but broke down in the face of merciless pressure. Gordon nearly finished the Brazilian in the second round, where he executed a takedown, applied ferocious ground-and-pound -- punches, hammerfists and elbows were his weapons of choice -- and ultimately achieved full mount. Though Gordon slowed down in the third, he nevertheless scrambled into top position and tore into Dias from full guard, half guard and the mounted crucifix. Dias’ bid for a Hail Mary armbar went for not in the closing seconds.
Gordon has rattled off four consecutive victories.
Surging Dos Santos Wins Fourth Straight
Former Jungle Fight champion Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos won for the fourth time in as many appearances, as he claimed a unanimous decision over Max Griffin in their preliminary welterweight battle. All three cageside judges scored it for dos Santos (18-5, 4-1 UFC): 29-28, 29-27 and 29-28.
Griffin (13-4, 1-2 UFC) was met with serious adversity in the first round. There, dos Santos had him reeling backward with a knee strike and left hook before swarming with punches along the fence. He later pancaked Griffin to the canvas, peppered him with ground-and-pound and polished off the round by nearly finishing him with an unanswered volley of punches. Griffin bounced back in the second round before losing his way again in the third. Dos Santos leaned on rolling overhand rights, knees from the clinch and power punches over the final five minutes to head off any thoughts of a potential comeback.
Griffin, 31, has lost two of his last three fights.
Unbeaten Figueiredo Edges Brooks
Deiveson Figueiredo kept his perfect professional record intact, as he eked out a split decision over Mash Fight Team rep Jarred Brooks in a three-round undercard scrap at 125 pounds. Scores were 29-28 and 29-28 for Figueiredo, 30-27 for Brooks.
Brooks (13-1, 1-1 UFC) executed repeated takedowns but saw his progress slowed by the Brazilian’s active submission game. Figueiredo tested him with one attempted guillotine after another and even made a pass at a kimura. The Jungle Fight veteran was the vastly superior striker and made the most of his opportunities on the feet, drilling Brooks with clinch knees, right uppercuts, front kicks and right hooks to the body.
Golm Mauls, Chokes Colombo
Corinthians MMA prospect Marcelo Golm was sublime in his promotional debut, as he submitted Christian Colombo with a rear-naked choke in the first round of their preliminary heavyweight encounter. A short-notice fill-in for the suspended Carlos Felipe, Golm (6-0, 1-0 UFC) brought it to a close 2:08 into Round 1.
Colombo (8-3-1, 0-1-1 UFC) found himself outclassed from the start. Golm forced him backward with punches, tripped the Dane to the floor and landed in full mount. From there, he brutalized Colombo with ground-and-pound -- punches, elbows and forearm strikes connected -- before maneuvering to the back and wrapping up the choke.
The 25-year-old Golm has finished all six of his opponents inside one round.
