Glover Teixeira padded his bank account at the painful expense of Anthony Smith.
Teixiera earned a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” award for a technical knockout victory over Smith in the UFC Fight Night 171 headliner at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida, on Wednesday night. After a slow start, Teixeira rallied to dominate his opponent down the stretch, bringing an end to the light heavyweight bout with punches from full mount at the 1:04 mark of Round 5.
Elsewhere, Drew Dober received a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” check thanks to his third consecutive finish at lightweight, a technical knockout stoppage of Alexander Hernandez 4:25 into the second round of their featured clash. Dober rattled his foe with punches repeatedly in the Round 2, ultimately drawing a close to the bout with a flurry of punches near the fence.
Finally, Brian Kelleher and Hunter Azure garnered “Fight of the Night” honors and $50,000 apiece for their preliminary featherweight scrap. Competing one division above his customary 135 pounds, Kelleher remained composed following a quick start from Azure and knocked his adversary out with a left hook and follow-up blows 3:40 into the second frame.
