Luana Carolina is facing a potentially lengthy time on the sidelines following a brutal submission defeat to Ariane Lipski at UFC Fight Night 172.
Carolina has been suspended for 180 days after tapping to a kneebar from Lipski in a women’s flyweight bout this past Saturday. Her term can be reduced if she receives doctor clearance from a left knee MRI. The UFC, which served as its own regulating body for the event, released a full list of medical suspensions from the card to mixedmartialarts.com.
UFC Fight Night 172 took place at the Flash Forum on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi and saw Deivesion Figueiredo claim the promotion’s vacant flyweight crown with a first-round submission of Joseph Benavidez in the evening’s main event. Benavidez received a 45-day suspension due to a forhead laceration, with 30 days of no contact.
Every fighter on the card received at least a seven-day mandatory medical suspension. Other than Carolina, no athlete earned a 180-day sit.
