Santiago Ponzinibbio and Miguel Baeza submitted their entry for “Fight of the Year,” and that effort made them $50,000 richer.
Ponzinibbio and Baeza received “Fight of the Night” honors for their entertaining welterweight slugfest at UFC Fight Night 189 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas on Saturday night. While Baeza started quickly, Ponzinibbio took control over the second half of the bout to emerge with a compelling unanimous decision triumph.
Elsewhere, Jairzinho Rozenstruik garnered a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” check thanks to a first-round stoppage of Augusto Sakai in the evening’s main event. “Bigi Boi” took his time before dropping his opponent with a two-punch combination and sealing the victory with follow-up strikes at the 4:59 mark of Round 1.
Finally, Marcin Tybura earned the evening’s other $50,000 “Performance of the Night” award thanks to a first-round TKO of Walt Harris in the heavyweight co-main event. After surviving an early blitz from “The Big Ticket,” Tybura secured a takedown, moved to back mount and pounded away until the bout was stopped 4:06 into the opening period.
