Eric Spicely entered UFC Fight Night Brasilia as a heavy underdog. He left with a massive upset victory and a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus.

The CES MMA veteran surprised Thiago Santos in their middleweight showdown, as he landed a takedown early and threatened with an armbar. From there he transitioned to his foe’s back, eventually securing the tapout 2:58 into the first period. Spicely was as much as an 8-to-1 underdog entering the bout.

Meanwhile, Erick Silva and Luan Chagas earned “Fight of the Night” honors and $50,000 apiece for their preliminary welterweight showdown. Silva was floored once apiece in the first and second rounds but Chagas was unable to capitalize for the finish on either occasion. When a fading Chagas shot for a takedown in the final stanza, Silva quickly transitioned to his opponent’s back and secured the fight-ending rear-naked choke at the 3:57 mark of the period.

Finally, Vicente Luque received the evening’s other $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus for his resounding knockout of Hector Urbina. Luque rocked his foe with a left hook and swarmed for a finish near the fence, ultimately bringing an end to the contest with an overhand right to the jaw 60 seconds into round one.
