Ivan Jorge vs. Josh Shockley

Round 1

Jorge rushes the taller man, swinging overhand punches at Shockley’s head. The American takes advantage of the over-aggressiveness, pulling Jorge’s head down in the clinch to deliver a few knees. Jorge shoots for a takedown against the cage and gets reversed by Shockley, who puts a knee in the Brazilian’s gut. Jorge gets underhooks and trips Shockley to the ground, where “Batman” passes straight to side control. Shockley puts him back in half guard and hits an elevator sweep to scramble back to his feet. He’s only up for a few seconds before Jorge trips him back to the mat. Jorge lands in side control but this time willingly places himself in Shockley’s half guard. From there, Jorge takes full mount and begins peppering Shockley with right hands. Jorge catches Shockley in an arm-triangle choke and tries to jump off to the left side, but his left foot is caught between Shockley’s legs. Jorge finally moves off to Shockley’s left side and continues bearing down on the choke. Shockley has a little room and rides out the choke for the better part of a minute. Jorge eventually gives up, and the lightweights return to their feet with 30 seconds on the clock to close the round circling.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-8 Jorge
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-8 Jorge
Jeff Sherwood scores the round 10-9 Jorge

Round 2

Jorge throws single punches, trying to close the gap and clinch up, but Shockley keeps him out of range with knees and combinations. A few knees from the Thai clinch seem to hurt Jorge momentarily. Jorge shoots for Shockley’s legs and gets shoved away by the larger man. Midway through the round, Jorge clips his man with a an overhand right and grabs for a single-leg against the fence. When Shockley threatens with a guillotine, Jorge backs out to reset in the center of the cage. Another overhand right gets Jorge into range, but again he can’t get Shockley to the ground. Referee Mario Yamasaki resets the fighters in the center with about 30 seconds left in the round, but nothing much comes of it.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Shockley
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Shockley
Jeff Sherwood scores the round 10-9 Shockley

Round 3

Jorge rushes to clinch up and trip Shockley to the ground, but it’s Shockley landing in top position as the lightweights bounce off the fence. Shockley postures up in Jorge’s half guard, thumping the Brazilian with elbows and punches while hunting for a choke. Jorge kicks him away and scrambles back to his feet, and Shockley drops his mouthpiece in the process. After a brief pause to rinse it off, the lightweights get back to work and Jorge tags Shockley with a two-piece. An inside leg kick backs Shockley away, and the fighters reach a stalemate on the feet, neither really engaging. Shockley shoots for a long double-leg, easily avoided by Jorge. A right hand lands upstairs for Batman, then one to the body, answered by a knee to the body from Shockley, who is now dropping his hands as he walks forward. Jorge tries a single-leg against the cage, can’t get it and goes upstairs to pummel for underhooks with Shockley. They fight on the fence inside the final minute, both men scoring with body shots. Jorge hits one more takedown with 40 seconds remaining and lands in side control, where he smothers Shockley and drops short hammer fists as time runs out.

Cody Gibson vs. Douglas Silva de Andrade

Round 1

Gibson grabs for a takedown, gets spun around and leg-kicked again after just avoiding an uppercut. Gibson scores with a right hook, whiffs on a huge left-handed follow-up. The leg kicks keep coming from Andrade, and now “D’Silva” mixes in a hard right hand to the gut. Gibson swipes his man’s face with a sweeping left hook. Andrade is coming up short with his punches inside the final minute, and now he takes a big overhand right to the chin. The Brazilian tries for a takedown against the fence and gets turned around. The overhand right from Gibson has opened up a cut on the left eye of Andrade, who is leaking blood down his face as the round ends.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Gibson
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Gibson
Jeff Sherwood scores the round 10-9 Gibson

Round 2

The cut beneath Andrade’s eye is reopened just seconds into the period, and Gibson chases after him with jabs and more overhand rights, trying to worsen the damage. Andrade still has plenty of power behind his punches, and Gibson runs straight into a right hand that lands on the temple. Gibson is dropped to his back, and Andrade tries to capitalize by pouncing and hunting for a choke. Gibson turns toward the fence, posts and stands up, where he cracks Andrade with a right hand that forces that Brazilian to back off midway through the round. Gibson keeps the shorter man out of range with jabs, while Andrade picks at him with leg kicks. With 90 seconds on the clock, Andrade zaps Gibson with a hard left hook. This time, Gibson stays upright and continues circling the outside, switching between stances. Gibson’s offense has dropped off, and it’s Andrade pushing the action late in the round.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Andrade
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Andrade
Jeff Sherwood scores the round 10-9 Andrade

Round 3

Gibson presses forward to start the final round and gets countered by an Andrade left hand. “The Renegade” keeps coming at Andrade with jabs and now eats an uppercut. Andrade sprawls all over a shot from Gibson, who resets and tries a single-leg on the second effort. Gibson gets the takedown and a wild scramble ensues, and after twice exchanging positions, Andrade winds up on top. It doesn’t last long, and the bantamweights are back on their feet with 2:40 remaining in the final round. Gibson uses leg kicks to pick at Andrade, who looks to counter off his back foot with single punches. Andrade pushes back Gibson’s head with a straight right hand. The Brazilian is exhausted, stumbling backward around the cage on unsteady legs. Gibson keeps walking him down, lands a body kick and sticks his jab in Andrade’s face. Gibson scores the last good offense of the fight, catching an aggressive Andrade with a cracking left hook.

Sherdog Scores

Mike de la Torre vs. Tiago ‘Trator’ dos Santos

Round 1

Trator looks for an early takedown against the fence, but de la Torre shuts it down and then dings the Brazilian with a hard right hand as they fight to the other side of the cage. Another clinch and takedown attempt from Trator is denied by de la Torre, who misses with a left hook and then changes levels to try a takedown of his own. Trator stands him up and reverses, but de la Torre turns his man back around and hurts Trator with a pair of left hooks. Trator backpedals to get some space, lands a leg kick and then gets dropped with another big left hook. De La Torre stands over the downed Trator and blasts away with right hands, knocking him unconscious and forcing referee Leon Roberts to stop the fight.

The Result

Mike de la Torre def. Tiago “Trator” dos Santos e Silva via KO (Punches) R1 2:59

Matt Dwyer vs. William Macario

Round 1

The welterweights trade leg kicks in the opening minute, with Dwyer adding a few jabs and right hands into the mix. Macario gets in the pocket and tags the Canadian with a hook before Dwyer backs out to create some space. Dwyer briefly looks for a takedown, releases and goes back to circling. Solid leg kicks are landing for Dwyer as he keeps out of range of Macario’s powerful punches. Dwyer lands a perfect Superman punch on the temple which takes the legs out from Macario. The Brazilian flops to the ground face first, and Dwyer polishes him off with a few punches from the standing position before referee Wernei Cardoso intervenes.

The Result

Matt Dwyer def. William Macario via KO (Superman Punch) R1 3:14

Jessica Andrade vs. Marion Reneau

Round 1

Andrade marches straight across the cage to meet Reneau with punches, and the bantamweights clinch up on the fence. After a moment of clinch work, they separate and Andrade lands a few shots, answered by a body kick from Reneau. A flurry of punches from Reneau bloodies Andrade’s nose, but Andrade comes right back and floors Reneau with a right hand on the chin and a left hook behind it. Andrade follows her downed opponent to the mat and nearly jumps into a triangle choke. Reneau can’t close it, so Andrade postures up and comes back down throwing punches. This time, Andrade places herself in perfect position for the triangle, and Reneau catches her. After adjusting the choke, Reneau gets Andrade to submit.

The Result

Marion Reneau def. Jessica Andrade via Submission (Triangle Choke) R1 1:54

Santiago Ponzinibbio vs. Sean Strickland

Round 1

Ponzinibbio backs Strickland up to the fence early, where the Californian has to jab to keep the local favorite out of range. A big right hand lands for Ponzinibbio when he manages to get inside, and then another a few moments later. Strickland drops levels for a double-leg attempt and winds up holding Ponzinibbio against the fence. They break with 3:15 on the clock and move to the center of the cage, where Ponzinibbio scores with a left hook to the ribs. Strickland sticks a few jabs which redden the face of Ponzinibbio and open a cut on the Argentine’s nose. A jab on the chin knocks Ponzinibbio to his seat, but he bounces to his feet and backpedals around the outside while Strickland chases. Seemingly recovered, Ponzinibbio hits Strickland with a pair of leg kicks and resumes pressing forward. A high kick slaps Strickland’s face and Ponzinibbio bombs him with punches behind it. Strickland is blocking some of the punches as they move around the edge of the fence, but Ponzinibbio gets through with some blistering rights. Ponzinibbio tries a high double-leg with 20 seconds left and places Strickland on the canvas to end the round.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Ponzinibbio
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Ponzinibbio
Jeff Sherwood scores the round 10-9 Ponzinibbio

Round 2

Ponzinibbio keeps working the lead leg of Strickland with chopping kicks, while “Tarzan” continues pumping his jab. A few more low kicks leave Strickland’s left leg marked up, though he sticks 10 or 12 more jabs in the opening 90 seconds while Ponzinibbio is relatively inactive with his hands. Strickland is starting to check the kicks midway through the round, so Ponzinibbio drubs him with a right-handed haymaker. Strickland scrambles back up and turns the corner to take Ponzinibbio’s back and attempt to drag him to the floor. Ponzinibbio stays upright and peels Strickland off to continue his forward pressure. Ponzinibbio tags Strickland with a hard left hook just as the American puts a stiff jab in his face. Another big left hand touches Strickland’s chin, then a jab. Ponzinibbio dodges a couple jabs from Strickland before decking him with a clean overhand right to end the round.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Ponzinibbio
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Ponzinibbio
Jeff Sherwood scores the round 10-9 Ponzinibbio

Round 3

Strickland touches Ponzinibbio with a pair of jabs, then “Gente Boa” lowers his head and bombs forward, touching Strickland with an overhand right on the end of a wild combination. Ponzinibbio lowers his head and steps into the pocket again, and this time Strickland is waiting with a jab that puts Ponzinibbio on the ground. He pops back up and is met with a double-leg attempt from Strickland, who completes the takedown near the fence but can’t keep Ponzinibbio on his back. Ponzinibbio stands and escapes the clinch with 3:30 remaining in the fight. Strickland is bleeding from his nose, still trying to jab at Ponzinibbio, who continues his work on Tarzan’s lead leg. Ponzinibbio is moving Strickland around the outside, slapping his face with another high kick, while Strickland just keeps jabbing. A double-leg attempt from Ponzinibbio goes nowhere, and now the welterweights move to the center with 60 seconds left. Strickland’s constant jabbing has marked up the left eye of Ponzinibbio. Another takedown attempt is blocked by Strickland. With seconds remaining, Ponzinibbio misses with a big left but lands a pair of overhand rights.

Iuri Alcantara vs. Frankie Saenz

Round 1

Saenz catches a low kick and hustles Alcantara to the ground about 20 seconds into the fight. Saenz stands and allows Alcantara to do the same, and now the Brazilian southpaw sets up in the center of the Octagon with Saenz circling the outside. Alcantara steps into the pocket to land a knee to Saenz’s body. A few seconds later, “Marajo” stings Saenz with a front kick to the body that forces the wrestler to clinch up and work for another takedown. Alcantara denies it and hits Saenz with an elbow on the split, and the bantamweights go back to the center. Saenz lands a leg kick, ducks under a left hook from Alcantara and hits the Brazilian’s body. Alcantara tries to clinch and instead takes a knee to the body from Sanez as they separate. Sanez rushes forward throwing a series of right hooks and gets picked off by a counter right. With 70 seconds to go, Alcantara digs an underhook and tries to trip Saenz to the ground. Sanez resists at first, but Alcantara gets the takedown on the second effort and then jumps on Saenz’s back. Riding too high to maintain the position, Alcantara peels off to attempt an armbar. Saenz escapes this, stands and comes back to the ground, where he lands in the still-grounded Alcantara’s guard. Saenz spends the final 30 seconds keeping active in top position with ground-and-pound to the head and body.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Alcantara
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Alcantara
Jeff Sherwood scores the round 10-9 Saenz

Round 2

Alcantara slaps Saenz with a left high kick which prompts the wrestler to shoot for a takedown. Alcantara turns him a way and then hits a single-leg of his own, though Saenz is immediately back on his feet. Alcantara whiffs on a left hand and drops to his knees, and Saenz follows him to the ground. Saenz throws a dozen or more knee strikes to the back of Alcantara’s thighs before switching to right hands upstairs. Alcantara rolls for a heel hook but the fighters are sweaty and Saenz slips his leg free. Halfway through the round, Saenz resets on top, now working from Alcantara’s closed guard. Saenz throws right hands to the body while the Porto Alegre crowd boos and Alcantara tries to wrap up from underneath and force a stand-up. Alcantara throws up his legs to try for an armbar, so Saenz stands up and kicks at his legs. Alcantara kicks him away and stands up with one minute on the clock. He rushes Saenz against the fence and cracks the American with an overhand left. Alcantara comes down the center with a straight left, but Saenz lands a couple leg kicks down the stretch. Alcantara finishes the round with a beautiful counter left hook, but Saenz responds with a takedown just before the horn.

Pushing Alcantara against the cage, Saenz scores with knees to the legs before releasing and tagging the Brazilian with a pair of elbows on the split. Another takedown goes for Saenz, who throws right hands to the body from half guard while Alcantara works on a kimura. Alcantara abandons the armlock and Saenz stands up; the American rushes back into Alcantara’s guard when it looks like grounded man might try to get up. Alcantara powers back to his feet with half a round remaining. Saenz is giving him no space, working the right side of Alcantara’s body with knees while the left side is flush to the fence. Alcantara tries to escape but winds up on a knee facing the other direction, so Saenz repeats the sequence with knees to the left side. The 135ers separate and Saenz puts another knee on Alcantara’s body, this time standing. Saenz shoots for a takedown with one minute left and gets reversed. Alcantara hits the takedown instead and passes straight to mount, then back-mount as Saenz gives up his back. Alcantara peels off for an armbar, quickly loses it and winds up on his knees with Saenz behind him. Saenz finishes the fight socking his kneeling opponent with right hands.

Khabilov gets a finger to the eye in an early exchange but says he’s alright to continue. Khabilov counters a body kick with an overhand right to the solar plexus. After two and a half minutes of feeling out, the crowd is getting restless, but just as they start to jeer, Martins runs Khabilov to the ground with a speedy single-leg. Martins tries to establish side control but gets pushed back to half guard before Khabilov posts and stands up. Khabilov comes over the top with a single right hand that knocks Martins a few steps backward. Another overhand right scores for Khabilov, then one to the body, but he’s throwing only single shots. Round 2

The lightweights spend another minute with sparse offense to start round two. Khabilov is still getting through with the occasional right hand, but again he’s throwing mostly single punches and then backing off. Martins takes a right high kick on the chest and tries to press forward on Khabilov, who matadors the Brazilian and sidesteps a right hand. The crowd is letting them hear it now. Khabilov circles to his left and puts a few kicks on the legs of Martins, who works from the center. A standing up-elbow lands on Martins’ chin, and Khabilov follows up with another, then a right hook to the gut. Khabilov sprawls on a takedown and stands Martins up in the center. Martins sticks a jab and pushes forward on Khabilov, who sticks a jab and circles right. Martins snuffs out a brief double-leg attempt from Khabilov, who cracks the Brazilian with an overhand right inside the last 30 seconds. Martins hits a takedown away from the fence about 90 seconds into the round and passes to Khabilov’s half guard. Working to extract his right leg, Martins thumps the ribs of Khabilov with short shots. Martins moves to full mount with 2:50 on the clock, but it doesn’t last long as Khabilov gets a knee inside. Khabilov drives forward on a leg and tries for a takedown of his own; it doesn’t come, but it does force Martins to stand and circle out to the other side of the cage. The lightweights are back to striking with 2:00 left in the fight. Khabilov fakes a right hand, changes levels and gets sprawled upon. Martins pumps his jab to keep the Russian out of range, but Khabilov keeps pressing forward. Khabilov misses with a leaping knee as the fight enters its final minute. Sam Alvey vs. Cezar Ferreira

Round 1

Ferreira lands an inside leg kick, sends one off the forearm of his fellow southpaw and then one to the body. “Mutante” hits Alvey with a right hand, another kick to the body, and then backs up as the American presses forward. Ferreira reverses Alvey’s momentum with a right hand, then Alvey ducks under a standing elbow strike. Ferreira repeats his sequence from the start of the round, a leg kick, then one to the gut and a missed capoeira kick upstairs. Alvey scores with a knee to the body of Ferreira in a brief clinch, and Mutante answers with a body blow. Ferreira scores with a standing elbow, then throws a straight left, leaving his right side exposed. Alvey makes him pay with a nasty left hook on the jaw. Ferreira hits the ground in a daze, and Alvey makes sure he stays there with a pair of coffin nail punches that send referee Mario Yamasaki into action.

Edson Barboza vs. Michael Johnson

Round 1

Barboza lands an outside leg kick and gets countered with a pair of hard right hands to the face. The southpaw Johnson presses forward and keeps throwing, absorbing a few more leg kicks and one to the body in order to give Barboza a hard left hook on the chin. Still on his back foot, Barboza scores with a knee to the body and an uppercut to the jaw as Johnson presses in to tie up. The clinch doesn’t last long, and the lightweights reset in the center with 3:30 on he clock. Johnson touches Barboza’s chin with an overhand left and takes a knee to the guts in return. Barboza tries a high double-leg but makes a poor entry and pays for it by eating a pair of hooks. Another left hook opens up a cut underneath Barboza’s right eye. Barboza gets some space with a spinning kick to the body which backs up Johnson a few paces. “The Menace” comes right back and lands a right hand that bloodies Barboza under the other eye. Johnson lands a leg kick, gets knocked off balance with a left hook on the chin. Barboza takes the opportunity to circle out to the middle, but Johnson pushes him right back to the fence and hurts him with a straight right. Barboza grabs for a takedown and gets reversed, and now it’s Johnson planting the Brazilian on his seat at the base of the fence. Barboza posts and stands but takes a kick to the chest on his way up. A left hook-overhand right rocks the head of Barboza, who answers with a short right hook of his own. Johnson gets Barboza near the fence and lands two punches in a four-piece combination to end the round.
